What Happened to the Perfect World God Created?
As Luke’s car winds slowly up the mountain road to Salento, I revel in the beauty of the green countryside. Everything sparkles in the sunshine after the recent heavy rains. If this is so beautiful, what must it have been like before sin entered our world?
Our group of hippy craftsmen (and women) are waiting for us.
They open their workbooks keen to share their answers to the questions set for homework.
As we look in detail at the true/false questions, the difference between a perfect world and our world is undeniable. It is obvious we are not living in the perfect world God created for His creation.
You are part of the group. What do you think?
True (T) or False (F)
Adam worried that Eve might lie to him
Adam and Eve felt afraid when God came down every evening
Adam and Eve conversed about their uncertain future
Adam and Eve felt appreciated and loved
When God spoke with them there were problems with the communication
Eve was sure of her husband’s love
Adam and Eve felt frustrated by the difficulties that they encountered
Adam felt complete with Eve at his side
When darkness fell they felt afraid
They were free to be the people God created them to be
Adam felt free to govern what God had given him
The world around them was perfect in every way
Adam and Eve had no knowledge of fear, anxiety, worry or frustration
Adam and Eve never felt tired
They always felt fine
Take a moment to imagine what their life was like. What would it be like to always feel fine? What made the relationship between husband and wife, perfect?
The original purpose of man and woman was to become one flesh. How? Each one complemented the other. The intellectual, emotional and physical characteristics of Eve complemented the intellectual, emotional and physical characteristics of Adam. Like two jigsaw puzzle pieces they joined to form a perfect whole. Each one independently depended on God Who had filled them totally with Himself.
Fernando glances at his wife.
“We are way off track from the original perfect relationship.”
Several nod their heads and Camilo speaks up.
“It’s almost impossible to imagine a world with no knowledge of fear, anxiety, worry or frustration.”
“Imagine the pain and terror Adam and Eve experienced the day they acted independently from God. I’m sitting here thinking they wouldn’t even have had words in their vocabulary to express their feelings, like …scared, vulnerable, confused…” Sarah stops abruptly as the reality of the situation engulfs her.
Mary joins in. “They must have been terrified. They experienced the anger of a just God against sin. They witnessed death for the first time, saw the blood of an innocent animal.”
Eugene shudders. “We are used to all that, but they, I mean they had only ever known happiness.” What caused all this chaos?
Anita smiles and closes the book.
“We will look at the answers to that question next time.”
